Born from barbershop, raised on radio hits
Great Lakes vocal band to perform radio hits from past five decades at Star
October 12, 2010
UPPER SANDUSKY - On college campuses and in a growing number of high schools across the country, a cappella music continues experiencing a resurgence, thanks in part to young people embracing this unique musical genre. A host of forces, such as YouTube, Facebook, MySpace, the blogosphere and aging acaheads (people who love a cappella music) are pushing contemporary a cappella music into the mainstream, according to a news release. 4 THE RECORD, a Great Lakes vocal band based in north central Ohio, will perform it fall season concert of contemporary a cappella favorites at 6 p.m. Oct. 17, at the Star Theatre, 121 W. Wyandot Ave., Upper Sandusky. Tickets are $10 per person. Generation X (people born between 1961 and 1981), who helped pioneer contemporary a cappella music on college campuses in the '90s, are now lawyers, CEOs, doctors and professionals. These same people now need an outlet for their musical passion and have satiated their appetite by forming their own semi-professional and professional touring groups, hence fueling the advent of contemporary a cappella into mainstream consciousness. 4 THE RECORD, formed in summer 2009, is one of these groups. The group will perform radio hits of from the '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s and today with the unique flair of vocal instrumentation, beatbox vocal percussion and intricate harmonies. The audience can anticipate hearing a cappella arrangements made famous by super group Journey, The Beatles, Manhattan Transfer, country group Sugarland, Latino crossover sensation Los Lonely Boys, '90s R&B crooners Boyz II Men and many others. General seating for the concert is available by contacting the theatre box office at 419-294-1411. Leave a message with your contact information and how many tickets you would like for the performance.
